Exhibition Information
The international Gallery is the first exhibition of this year's Busan branch and will host Kim Hong-seok's solo exhibition <Small People's Short People> from June 26 to August 16. Following <In Through the Outdoor> (2008) and <Blue Hours> (2014), the third individual exhibition of the artist at the form of daily objects and new spray paintings. The exhibition name <Short People> comes from some of the sub-titles of Kim Hong-seok's sculpture trilogy-<MATERIAL>(2012), <Breaths>(2013-), and <Untitled (Short People)>(2018-). This sculpture trilogy, installed at a certain distance in the center of the exhibition hall, presents a common visual form of balloons that we perceive universally. The vertical pile of roundly puffy balloons evokes the general character of the object, balloon, at one point that can float according to the density of the gas and cannot be stacked upright due to the curvature and material of the surface. At this time, the viewer stops accepting the work only by appearance, and instead invokes a recognition system embodied in experience and learning. It is to take an attitude to understand and interpret what materials and processes the objects in front of you are made of, its meaning, and the purpose of the author.
