Exhibition Information

			ana Art Nineone is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Myeongwook HUH who uses the traditional medium of “lacquer” as a painting material. He works with various media such as painting, sculpture and woodwork, all based on lacquer. Like a practitioner, he repeatedly applies lacquer on the medium on which work is based. Lacquered canvas fabric is layered to complete the work. These lacquers are the record of colors that are formulated everyday differently by the artist Colors are made every day differently, and piled up on a plane day by day.
Through the very labor-intensive application, construction and erasing at the end, the artist captures ‘time’ in his work. Lacquer needs several days to dry out by nature but the artist repeats the act over and over as if he endures it and follows the traces of time revealed in his work as time goes by. In other words, Myeongwook HUH recreates our time in the work, and unfolds our narrative contained in the time into the work with the colors of lacquers. Accordingly, we expect that his exhibition is a great opportunity to appreciate the visual time story he created, and a meaningful place to appreciate the handicraft beautiful paintings of Myeongwook HUH.
