Exhibition Information
Gana Art is delighted to announce Tyrrell Winston’s first solo exhibition in Korea, STEALING SIGNS, opening on February 1st at Gana Art Bogwang. The exhibition features three of the artist’s distinguished series: Skewers, Punishment Paintings and Networks. Winston has collected, organized, and reconfigured discarded objects over the years to create two and three-dimensional artworks. His compulsive collection of objects from the streets of Brooklyn and Manhattan, New York, is a quest for exploration and public service, but, above all, stems from a fascination with the enduring energy of “useless” objects that humans leave behind. Winston uniquely creates absurd parallels between contrasting objects, such as basketballs and a pack of cigarettes, or a stool and basketball hoop, that reflect a contemporary and thoughtful conversation between his practice and established concepts of the ready-made within art history. Through this daring and inventive union of divergent objects, Winston focuses on themes of hope and despair, resurrection and regeneration, vitality and recklessness. (Source = ganaart)
