Exhibition Information

Siwon Ghim expresses on canvas a moment in which one line of expression is suddenly converted into a totally different representation. Although people attempt to concentrate on a single object or thing, we cannot live perceiving that one thing as a ‘whole’. In order to move here and there and continue to live, we need to ‘move one step backward’ at every moment, looking back at ourselves and figuring out how to move forward. Brushstrokes within her works are painted when she is not bound by neither reality nor herself, and when the state of her body is flexible enough. Siwon Ghim is a painter currently working in Seoul, after graduating at the Slade School of Fine Art in 2014. She had her first solo exhibition in Seoul in 2018, and has been presenting works concerning a meek identity that gets easily influenced by the surrounding environment, but still being held. She expresses her will to straighten her identity and move forward with a belief in the perception of her body. (Source=Lee & Bae)
