Exhibition Information

G Gallery is proud to present 《SUITE》, the solo show of Seoul-based artist Lee Mijung. The show will feature a new series of works by Lee, titled 〈Striking feature(s)〉. The series, as inferred by the title, will display a variety of Vector graphics-based drawings composed of different facial features drawn in short and thick strokes and realized in diversified forms such as banners, wooden pieces, and vinyl installation. Smart devices process images and present them to us in a planar and fragmental manner. Images of our faces are especially favored and thus are processed significantly more frequently than other subjects. We have become accustomed to digitally enhanced photos, at times the artificially tweaked images becoming the beauty standards we refer to when improving our appearance. Lee Mijung bypasses these standards by recombining and reinterpreting anonymous facial features—large eyes, curved noses, and angular jaws—that she finds online into bold line drawings. The artist joins the initially three-dimensional eyes, noses, and mouths on a two-dimensional plane without distinction between perspectives and arranges everyday objects used to tidy or decorate our faces in between. Through 〈Striking feature(s)〉, Lee presents to viewers the new sensation of regarding the face as an image and caring for it as they would their bodies.
