Exhibition Information
Gana Art is pleased to announce the opening of Kim Chunhwan (b.1968-)’s solo exhibition Kaleidoscope. Using various printed materials such as magazines and advertisements, Kim has developed his own artistic approach that crosses a boundary between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. Based in Seoul and Paris, the artist has shown his work at numerous galleries and institutions across the world, including Galerie RX (Paris, 2020), Ilwoo Space (Seoul, 2019), Arthus Gallery (Brussels, 2016), and Leila Heller Gallery (New York, 2012). Kaleidoscope is Kim’s first solo exhibition at Gana Art, featuring works that show his representative style as well as a new series of works created through a new artistic experiment. Adopting what inevitably becomes a waste as his artistic unit and expressing the beauty of the abandoned or overlooked, Kim actively integrates the idea of recycling into his artistic practice. His work visualizes a myriad of colors and patterns of the world, similar to what is seen through a kaleidoscope, however, the fact that it is made of commercial prints makes one reflect on the endless human desire to produce or possess something. Through this exhibition, Gana Art hopes to provide a moment of contemplation, leading to a discovery of what exists underneath the kaleidoscopic reality. (Source = gana art)
