My work is based on migration experiences and changes of cultural identity. I use the canvas as a platform, reconstructing my identity through marks, brushstrokes, texture and colors. My paintings are an imaginary place where I explore and define myself without any limits. That imaginary place is also where two cultures come together and interweave, merge, and sometimes clash. Both paintings in this exhibition, titled ‘Watching Life Unfold’ and ‘Life Flows’ are a collection of my emotional patterns and fragmented memories in life. The juxtaposition of materials and divided surfaces emphasize the stage of my life after migration. That is the life in between two worlds, Eastern and Western cultures, the “old me” and “new me.” My life was an art when I began to shift from fear to fearlessness. When I was able to step into a space of chaos and vulnerability, I can see things in such a different way and transform that vision into art.
